School Story
I graduated from Wayne State University in 1970 with a degree in English Education. I taught English at South Lake High School for five years while earning a Counselig degree and experiencing three layoffs. I became a middle school counselor for 7.5 years in L'Anse Creuse, through three more layoffs. Marna Beard and I, fellow counselors, wrote a book, "Alternative Careers for Teachers", published by ARCO of N.Y. in 1983. As the cover was being bound to the book, we were both laid off again. We got to field test our ideas!
I spent the next 18 years working in industry and returned to educationi in 1970 to become the Career Development Counselor at Lakeview, retiring in 2007. I flunked retirement and went to work for Chippewa Valley, part-time, as a career development consultant. I retired again in June of 2015, totally tore the rotator cuff in my right shoulder in September, and am close to a full recovery after surgery and 5 months of physical therapy.
Marilyn and I have been married since 1971, an anniversary that is not much shorter than our class one. Indescribable; adventuresome; wonderful; fun; glorious; loving. Here's hoping this continues for a long time through retirement
3/2016 Oops! I flunked again! I just started working again for Lakeview, L'Anse Creuse, and Chippewa Valley as a "Guest Teacher", aka "Sub". The name change to "guest" was designed to reduce the incidence of the "substitute teacher torture" game that students sometimes enjoyed playing! I'll get out of school someday.
